Pinup Pole Show Pinup of the Week: Tonya Kay

Click Here to Begin Slideshow This is one of my personal favorite photoshoots of all time. You’ll see me, Tonya Kay, creator of Pinup Pole Show and writer of this column, modeling in Kelly Maglia pole fashion with Fabian Sanchez’s 1956 Ford Fairlane. This pristine Fairlane has a 292 ci Thunderbird engine and is lowered four inches, with mild customization. This shoot happened live at Tonya Kay’s Pinup Pole Show. The truth is, I’m the producer, so I’m always hustling around pre-show, and I swooped into the cruise-in lot at the very last few minutes of sunset that night. Luckily, prized photographer Shane Karns was ready to rock with an ingenious use of the show car’s headlights for backlighting - and we even used the light from the headlamps of cars parked across from us for front lighting! I think everyone involved with this composition thinks these are some of the best photos of our photo-making careers. Some of our favorites! Let’s find out a little more about show car owner Fabian Sanchez of Duke’s cc, Hollywood chapter. TONYA KAY: What are some of your favorite spots to cruise the Fairlane? FABIAN: My favorite spots to cruise and enjoy my Fairlane are usually summer carshows or holiday fundraisers. I really enjoy the parades during December in Wilmington and San Pedro. TONYA KAY: What is it about California’s car culture that you like? FABIAN: California's car Kulture is unique in the fact that lowriding and Kustoms were creating here and people always look into what Cali is doing "next." TONYA KAY: Are you a member of any car clubs and if so, what events does your club do? FABIAN: I belong to Hollywood Duke's; we organize cruises around the South Bay and the Valley. We do many fundraisers and charity drives. TONYA KAY: How did your Fairlane come into your world? FABIAN: The short version of my Fairlane coming into my life is about fifteen years ago, when I worked at Pick Your Part, and I saw this old car on the tow truck about to go into the crusher. I was able to convince the tow driver to drop it off at my house for an extra 100 bucks. I spent the next 12 years building it back to its current condition.
