Pinup Pole Show Pinup of the Week: Tonya Kay

Click Here to Begin Slideshow Celebration! This week’s Pinup Pole Show Pinup of the Week is me, Tonya Kay! And I’ve got a great story about the sexy 1955 Ford owned by Chris Geerdes you see in Shane Karns’ photography here. When I first bought my 1965 Buick Riviera, I thought I was getting a cool classic car. Well, that’s a fact. But I had no idea I’d also be getting a family-like community with it. Shortly after investing in my Riviera, I created Tonya Kay’s Pinup Pole Show, a classic car show and stage production featuring the best in Los Angeles pinup, burlesque, pole dance, vocal and comedic talent. This company of all-stars became popular pretty quickly and the next thing I knew, I was producing and modelling in photoshoots for automotive magazines and pinup periodicals. Well, The SpeedGirls Magazine invited me and the Riviera to do a feature, and we set up a crack-of-dawn shoot underneath the Hollywood sign. We were going to be parking the Riviera illegally against a red curb, so we wanted to get there before sunrise, when the car traffic and police traffic was lowest! Plus, lighting is just gorgeous at those two magic hours of dawn and dusk, so yeah, we chose the one with the least people around to ruin the shot. Very few people. Nearly none. I’m posing against my car in a purple swimsuit (you can see The SpeedGirls Buick Riviera and Tonya Kay photos here) and maybe 4 cars drive by the entire 90 min - very low traffic for the middle of Hollywood, indeed! One of those cars was a fly 1955 Ford. The driver honked in support as both I and the photographer goose-necked to check out his ride. I stopped the driver, shouted out to his choice of vehicles and we got to chatting - he was a cool dude, into Tiki style, cruises his Ford as a daily driver. He was on his way to work. I was just so delighted to meet this classic car enthusiast at the crack of dawn, I invited him to the next Pinup Pole Show. And he came! This man’s name is Chris Geerdes. He cruised in, parked and went up to the theatre to order dinner and drinks, leaving his '55 Ford unlocked in the lot. Well, that’s an invitation as far as my models and I are concerned! He didn’t even know we took all these photos with his car. I’m inside it, against it. Heck, he left his favorite fedora on the dash and even that made it into Shane Karns’ photos, as you can see here. But the fun didn’t stop there. I snuck the hat backstage and that hat made an appearance in one of my acts that evening, to Chris’s surprise! We all got a good laugh out of it and we got some great photos, too. This is the part of classic car ownership I didn’t expect - you don’t just get a classic car, you get a family.

    • Haha. None of the Pinup Pole Show models smoke, including me! It’s a prop. You’re gonna not believe this, but it’s not even a cigarette – it’s a vaporizer I painted to look like a cigarette. I sometimes use it in the show, too. I glows when you “puff” on it, even if there’s no fluid in it. It’s a theatre prop. I agree with you – smoking is too gross!
