This week we get to ask showcar owner Teddy Yonenaka about his 1973 Datsun 240z. And you’ll see the stunning Pinup Pole Show Pinup of the Week Candace Cane posing with the Z. She’s a company member and star of Pinup Pole Show, and she’s wearing Retro Riviera fashion for this week’s photography by the talented Ryan Enos Creative. TONYA KAY: Why the Datsun 240z? TEDDY: I was five years old in 1970. Dad ordered a year-one 240z in October 1969 in blue with black interior. He purchased his second Z years later, which ended up being my first car (after I rebuilt the engine). That one was green with butterscotch interior. Recently, after my father passed, I guess I was missing him a whole lot, so I got it in my head that buying my own 240z would bring me closer to him. This one is persimmon orange with black interior. TONYA KAY: I know this Z has showed quite a bit. What awards has your car won and where? TEDDY: Classic Preservation Award - 5th Annual Nissan Jam - 2017 Best in Class 3rd Place - 5th Annual Nissan Jam - 2017 Best Datsun 240z 1st Place - 13th Annual Japanese Classic Car Show - 2017 Best Classic Car - Tonya Kay’s Pinup Pole Show, Sept 2017 TONYA KAY: Do you subscribe to the all-original aesthetic or have you customized your car? How, if so? TEDDY: Aesthetically, it’s mostly stock. The previous owner fitted earlier bumpers from a 1970 and aftermarket wheels and tires from Motorsports Auto and repainted in the original color. Under the hood is a different story. Here’s a list of things I’ve modified: 1972 SU carbs - refurbished & polished from Z Therapy MSA 6-1 jet hot coated header - stainless 2 1/2” exhaust 1985 Toyota 4 Runner 4 piston front brake conversion Petronix electronic ignition 5-spd transmission from 1981 280z 110 amp alternator upgrade TONYA KAY: How do you and your Z spend time together? TEDDY: I like to cruise Los Angeles early on the weekends before traffic starts - ending up lapping the Angeles Crest and then back home. The straight 6 screams like a 70’s rock star climbing and twisting along the 2 highway. I don’t even have a radio in the car. I also really enjoy cleaning her up for photo shoots.
