Pinup Pole Show Pinup of the Week: Tonya Kay

Click Here to Begin Slideshow This week’s Pinup Pole Show Pinup of the Week is me! I’m Tonya Kay, the creator and director of Tonya Kay’s Pinup Pole Show and writer of this column. I hope to meet you at one of the car shows I throw someday. This week you see me, Tonya Kay, posting with Fernando Ubrie’s 1947 Chevrolet convertible, photographed by Ryan Enos at Tonya Kay’s Pinup Pole Show. Because you can chat with me about cars and pinups anytime, I’m most excited to bring you a few photography tips from one of my favorite photographers, Ryan Enos, this week! TONYA KAY: Why classic cars? RYAN ENOS: So many reasons. My dad got me into classic and muscle cars and (slowly, haha) taught me how to turn a wrench. Their forms are a stylistic palate cleanser in a world full of modern cars that, for the most part, all look the same. I love talking to the owners and connecting with their stories, which usually involve family or someone they looked up to who owned the type of car they love when they were young and impressionable. TONYA KAY: What is your approach to framing when models and cars are both the subject? RYAN ENOS: I utilize conventions like the rule of thirds, and being willing to get as high up or as down low as possible as a photographer to get the most fitting angle. I am a sucker for shallow depth of field, so I often tend toward that to make a model and or automobile really sing. TONYA KAY: Your work from this shoot specifically has been published in Urban Pirates Pinup Magazine - how does it feel as a photographer to see your work in print? RYAN ENOS: It's really satisfying because I can remember back to not knowing how to shoot or light at all 8+ years ago. I studied and loved seeing the pro work in pinup and automotive mags growing up. To view more of Ryan’s automotive and pinup work, visit here.
