Pinup Pole Show Pinup of the Week: Tilly Erikson

Click Here to Begin Slideshow Introducing this week’s Pinup Pole Show Pinup of the Week, the unsinkable Tilly Erikson! Tilly is a Los Angeles-based pole dancer, animal rescuer and free spirit seen here posing with Teddy Yonenaka’s 1973 Datsun 240z and photographed by Shane Karns at Tonya Kay’s Pinup Pole Show and classic car cruise-in. Tilly is big into education and pole fitness and is extremely passionate about teaching, her students and constantly learning and sharing what she’s learned. She works as a pole choreographer and coach and helps others find their pole voice and their own passion for performing. When she’s not in the pole studio, she’s volunteering with local animal shelters and fostering rescues while they await their forever homes. When Tilly first started pole dancing, she didn’t want to tell her dad, afraid of what he’d think. So she told him she was “working and performing with a dance group”, which is not exactly a lie. Tilly’s sister ended up spilling the beans to her pops and when dad revealed that he knew Tilly was pole dancing, she braced herself for judgement. To her surprise, pops said he “looked it up on the YOU tube” and saw how physically difficult this sport really is, and that he was proud of her for doing something new and beautiful, yet sexy, athletic and empowering. “I almost cried at how lucky I am to have someone like that in my life,” Tilly shares. She finds inspiration for her movement in a good beat, a meaningful lyric, a foul mood or loving feeling that needs to be expressed. But as graceful and powerful as she is now, she wasn’t always so. When she first put on her pole dancing platform heels, she looked like a “baby giraffe.” She says about this shoot with photographer Shane Karns, “Even when Shane took photos of me with the Datsun, you see me leaning or sitting - you think that was a pose? NOPE! I was trying to hold myself up in those shoes and not die!” Luckily, Shane knows how to make anyone look like a natural. Shane Karns instantly made Tilly feel comfortable with herself in front of the camera. “I felt like he was able to capture a bunch of different sides of what makes me, well - ME,” says Tilly. Combine that self-confidence with Shane’s photography skills, and how could any model not enjoy working with Shane? Tilly had wanted her first car to be her dad's '85 El Camino (the vehicle people either love or hate), but instead she got the hand-me-down '90 Camry with a modest 150,000 miles on it. “Hey, I can't complain about a free car! Plus, the El Camino is still in the family so that bad boy is mine once I figure out how to get it from Rhode Island to California!” Thank you, Tilly, Teddy and Shane! The next Tonya Kay’s Pinup Pole Show is November 17th in North Hollywood, CA. Bring your camera, register your classic, dress to impress and come enjoy a seamless evening of mechanical art and entertainment!
