The Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals brought about more than just long awaited victories. In fact, this famous event at Brainerd International Raceway gave living drag racing legend and Hall of Famer Chris Karamesines the chance to reach an NHRA Prime Gasoline elimination record at the age of 86 years old.

Now the oldest qualifier ever, the veteran Top Fuel driver who they call “The Golden Greek” qualified with a blistering run of 4.003 seconds at 305.01 MPH, which put him through to Sunday’s knockout round against No. 4 qualifier Clay Millican.

Despite Millican knocking out this record-setting driver in Sunday’s first elimination round, the fact that the Motorsports Hall of Fame recipient is still setting some eye-popping records after nearly seven decades of racing in one of the most challenging NHRA series is proof that you are never too old to do something incredibly awesome.
