Racing on the salt is a dream come true for so many speed freaks and race enthusiasts, and Speedweek is one of the best times to realize that dream. This year, plenty of amazing events will occur from August 11-17 at Bonneville, and with luck, records will be broken along the way.
Among those who will be present on the flats are the speed-loving folks at The Garage Shop, who plan to cheer on the Jesel Land Speed team as they attempt to break their own previous record of 219 mph. They aren’t the only ones, either – as the Facebook page for the Bonneville Salt Flats illustrates, a wide range of racers intend to test their vehicles and skills over the coming week.
Unfortunately, the flats aren’t impervious to the ravages of time and weather. In order to ensure that future speed enthusiasts will be able to race across the salt and set even more impressive records, the Save the Salt Foundation has made it their mission to preserve and restore this Utah landmark.
Will you be watching Speedweek in person, or maybe even participating? If you haven’t decided, now’s the time. The racing starts tomorrow!
