It has been a tough year in the motorsports world, as we have had to mourn the loss of several talented drivers. Yet another driver was tragically added to this list on Saturday night. Following a popular bracket race at Indiana’s Wagler Motorsports Park, formerly known as the Lyons Motorsports Park, 54-year-old bracket drag racer William “Bill” Young succumbed to injuries caused by a single car accident in his low five-second (eighth-mile) doorslammer.
According to eyewitness reports, during opening round of Super Pro eliminations Young’s car got loose near the finish line, causing his custom-built drag car to cross the centerline and slam into the guardrail before rolling a few times and coming to rest in the grass outside the shutdown area.
Despite being transported to a local hospital, the man who loved drag racing and working on race cars with his son as well as hanging out with his family would succumb to the blunt force trauma that was inflicted during this crash.
Following this tragic loss, friends, family and fellow competitors are sharing their thoughts and memories of yet another life taken too soon.
We at RacingJunk.com send our condolences to this driver’s friends and family and ask each of you to stay safe as the 2018 race season continues.
