NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Pro Stock driver Erica Enders will take a break from her busy schedule soon to try her hand at another prestigious title – 2018 DRAG ILLUSTRATED World Series of Pro Mod Champion. On August 10-11, the NHRA Pro-Stock World Champion will step away from her Elite Motorsports Chevrolet to take on some of the top talent in Pro Mod division at the inaugural DRAG ILLUSTRATED World Series of Pro Mod race at Lakewood, Colorado’s Bandimere Speedway
Enthralled with the high-stakes, winner-takes-all Pro Mod action of the inaugural race in 2017, Enders, who made her NHRA Pro Mod debut earlier this year, literally jumped at the opportunity when handed the invitation by Drag Illustrated Founder and Editorial Director Wes Buck.
“It was such an honor to be asked to compete in this race,” said Enders. “I was so excited – I mean I was jumping up and down like a little kid.”
Buck said that he first floated the idea of having Enders involved in this challenging race, which offers a six-figure payout this year, to Elite Motorsports team owner Richard Freeman a year ago. Although the timing wasn’t right then, this new opportunity became feasible with the team’s official Pro Mod debut in Houston earlier this season.
When Enders looked impressive driving the team’s turbocharged RJ Race Cars Camaro – to the surprise of no one – the idea of competing at one of the biggest and richest Pro Mod races in the history of the known universe became an obvious next step for Enders and her team.
“Erica is one of the biggest stars in our sport and her presence, without question, is a difference maker,” said Buck. “She is the type of person we want involved in this race. For her to even know what the World Series of Pro Mod is, let alone be entered to compete – it’s a dream come true.”
Enders’ first time racing at the NHRA’s Thunder Mountain in a Pro Mod car comes during a stretch of five consecutive race weekends following the NHRA’s Western Swing and preceding the NHRA stop in Brainerd. Although this seems like quite the challenge, it is exactly the adrenaline rush that gives this NHRA star a push to thrive.
“I am excited about this and, like I have said a million times in interviews, the big rounds, the high- pressure situations, all of that stuff, I feed off of it,” said Enders. “The group of guys on this team is absolutely amazing. When the pressure is on we step up together and really cool things happen. They make me better and we have the coolest team in all of motorsports, in my opinion.”
We at RacingJunk.com wish Enders the best of luck in this challenge and look forward to telling her good news very soon. Stay tuned to Racing Junk for this and all the latest racing news.
