Unexpectedly, Chevrolet has introduced the 2019 Silverado 1500 at an event celebrating 100 years of Chevy Trucks. The news release announcing this showed a helicopter lowering the truck onto a stage at Texas Motor Speedway.

Touted as “all new from the ground up,” this rendition of the Silverado has been updated based on Chevrolet’s past experience with truck models, including the 1950s “Advance Design” trucks and the C/K series in the following decades, according to the company’s statement.

In order to achieve greater function with lighter weight, the 2019 Silverado’s bed uses a higher-grade alloy in its roll-formed, high-strength-steel floor. The reduction in weight should help improve vehicle performance.

There will be eight 2019 Silverado models. One, the Silverado LT Trailbox, features the off-road equipment found in the Z71 package as well as a two-inch suspension lift. In contrast to aftermarket lift kits, the Trailbox suspension is tested and warrantied by Chevrolet.

The 2019 Silverado will publicly debut in January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, precisely 100 years after the very first Chevrolet trucks were delivered to customers.
