On Dec. 8 we were at the Performance Racing Industry trade show in “Racing Town, USA” (Indianapolis) when Chevrolet revealed the new Gen Six Camaro SS for NHRA Pro Stock competition in 2017 for the first time publicly. The Gen Six model takes the successes of the Gen Five model and moves ahead, building upon those successes.

John Mack, Chevrolet Camaro Exterior Design Manager told the press, “Our goal was to minimize aerodynamic drag within the NHRA guidelines and incorporate as many design cues from the production car (as possible). The result is a sleeker and more aerodynamic Camaro SS.” The 2017 Camaro SS Pro Stock car will make its competition debut at the Pomona Raceway in February for the 2017 NHRA Mello Yellow Drag Racing Series.

23 out of 24 events in the 2016 NHRA Mello Yellow Drag Racing Series were won by Camaro Pro Stock drivers. With eight event wins, KB Racing driver Jason Line won his third world title. This was also the third straight championship for Chevrolet. Greg Anderson, also a winner of eight events, was runner-up in the series, earning Chevrolet a one-two finish.

Fans at a few select tracks around the country can get lucky and watch the Gen Six Camaro SS undergo track testing later this month, but no tracks have been announced as yet.
