Tires

When you are driving fast on dirt, you need to have as much grip as you possibly can. Besides the crucial tip of dirt racing with a manual transmission, which increases your grip as you stay on lower gears, having the proper tires can make the most difference. Be sure to purchase dirt track tires, and don’t settle for any other type of tires. You may think you got everything under control, but it would cost you far more to pull your car off the course and fix it than to purchase good dirt track tires.

Stance

Having a lower stance allows you to have a lower center of gravity. When you are trying to take corners at higher speeds, a low car will hold on to the ground much more than one with a high center of gravity. Be sure to lower the car properly, which means you will need to replace your shock absorbers to heavier duty ones, as they will have more pressure on them. If you lower your car and do everything right, you should see a tremendous increase in your steering and handling – even on the dirt.

Suspension

Replacing your stock suspension with a stiffer performance suspension system is crucial when racing your car, especially if you are doing the racing on a dirt track. Dirt tracks are filled with bumps and rough terrains, which when tackled at higher speeds, they can force your car to bounce just enough to make you lose control. The stiffer your car is, the less comfortable it becomes, but you are not going to race a Bentley. Make your suspension extremely stiff so you can stay close to the ground at all times, which will allow you to take the corners much faster.

Cage

Installing a cage around the cabin is a huge safety point. Let’s face it, racing is dangerous, and a huge part of the rush comes from the risk of crashing. When you are on a dirt track, crashing becomes a bigger possibility. Installing a cage is a great safety measure to protect your head and body from getting crushed in the case of an accident. This is a modification that you won’t need until you truly need, which makes it one of the most important modifications on this list. The modifications above will make your experience on the dirt track much more pleasant. These are things that will make your race much more competitive, fast, and fun. Be sure to start with the safety modifications, and then make your way to the performance modifications. Eventually, you will have a dirt race car that will leave your opponents in the dirt – literally.
