Dodge’s 2017 lineup includes all-new models of the company’s signature menacing muscle car, the Challenger. With a host of stylish and functional new features and a heritage stretching back to the early 1960s, the coming year’s versions of this powerful vehicle are sure to excite driving enthusiasts and muscle car devotees alike.
The Challenger T/A 392 will be equipped with the 6.4-liter, 485 horsepower Hemi engine, while the Challenger T/A will supply a choice between the 6.4 and a 5.7-liter, 375 horsepower model. All Dodge’s Hemi V-8 engines now come standard with an electronically controlled active exhaust system for a chunky muscle car sound. Wider wheels supporting high-performance Goodyear and Pirelli tires should offer drivers improved control, while new cold-air induction components will freshen rides up.
The T/A Plus and 392 models feature cozy heated and ventilated Nappa leather performance seats and a leather-wrapped performance steering wheel with a power tilt-and-telescoping column for extra luxury. The Challenger 392 will also benefit from ultra-high performance Brembo brakes with six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers, the largest front-brake package ever to appear in a FCA US vehicle.
Challenger SRT models will receive several small aesthetic updates in the new year, such as LED-illuminated steering wheels (in red for the SRT Hellcat and white for the SRT 392) and a wide, five-spoke wheel design. Houndstooth cloth seats will now be available for the SXT, R/T, R/T Shaker, and R/T Scat Pack Dodge Challenger models. Four new exterior paint colors will also debut: Octane Red, Destroyer Grey, Yellow Jacket, and Green Go (late availability).
For those who enjoy new technology in areas other than automobile design, a fourth-generation Uconnect system will be available in all 2017 Dodge Challenger models. This smartphone integration system allows users to control music, maps, and even telephone calls via touchscreen, with voice control also available for Apple technology and steering-wheel controls offered for Android applications.
2017 is the last year of production for the Dodge Viper, and the company has developed six special edition models to commemorate the occasion. Dodge is also producing new models in their Charger, Durango, and Journey lines. Whatever sort of vehicle draws your interest, Dodge should help make 2017 an exciting year.
