The NHRA and FOX Sports have officially announced that the 2016 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series will be televised by FOX Sports 1. There will be four events airing on the FOX national broadcast network during each season of the partnership. The NHRA hopes that this partnership will shed some more light on their hallowed sport.

“This really is a game-changer for NHRA regarding the presentation of our marquee product, the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series,” said Peter Clifford, NHRA president. “FOX Sports promises to be just the right media partner we’ve been looking for to help give our professional series the stage it deserves and to provide our passionate fans the timely, quality coverage they are craving.”

FOX Sports are no stranger to motorsports; they have televised high-powered races NASCAR, Monster Energy Supercross, the FIA World Endurance Championship, the 24 Hours of Le Mans and even the fully-electric FIA Formula E Championship, among others. The new deal will also include FOX Sports Racing in Canada and the Caribbean as well as the critically acclaimed FOX Sports GO App.

Committing to 16 live events, including four on the FOX broadcast network, certainly demonstrates the commitment and excitement level we have for the National Hot Rod Association,” said Jamie Horowitz, President of FOX Sports National Networks. “As home to the strongest and most diverse collection of racing properties on television, adding NHRA drag racing to the weekly lineup absolutely solidifies FOX Sports as the leader in motor sports television.”

FOX Sports will also promote the NHRA Mello Yello Series across all of its media platforms ensuring an influx of viewership and hopefully new fans.

hope FOX doesn’t cock it up! maybe, unlike ESPN, they’ll show more than 4 categories/classes.

Yes ! Pro mod would be great , their as entertaining as Funny Car! Wild and unpredictable and cool..

Waddya mean nobody likes PSM? I lke all the Pro classes I suppose PS the least but Pro Mod should be televised. How could Fox do worse than ESPN with dolts like Reiff and Dunn and events at all times and pre-emted by any sports show?
But that is not how it is to work. NHRA will produce the show and will hand it off to Fox who will keep the shows on time. Fox will cross-promote NHRA with their other motorsports shows.

I’m a merchant mariner and away for most of the month, leaving it up to the DVR to record NHRA events. But there’s nothing that twists my nuts worse than turning on the 4k flat screen and being subject to an half hour of women’s basket ball! No offense to women’s B ball , but racing should be the only thing on the recorder. I hope Fox does not pull the same thing ESPN has done way to many times, by letting such programs over run into NHRA ‘s original air time slot. Yeah you get to see the event only to be left hanging as to who won the finals !!! Because the allotted AIR TIME RAN OUT !!

They should give them ALL to FOX and tell ESPN to go f__k themselves!!!! Like everyone else on here I have have a gut full of the way ESPN treats drag race fans and 99% of them time NEVER starts at the scheduled time!!! Not to mention the absurd time slots they relegate them to!!! Whomever the rocket scientist at NHRA is that keeps renewing the contract with ESPN needs to be horse whipped and tarred and feathered!!!! Apparently ESPN must have pictures of them having sex with farm animals and are blackmailing them to continue letting them be the only broadcaster with p*ss poor performance and service they get from them!!! Or else it’s an inside deal and ESPN is lining their pockets under the table to keep signing with them!!!! The definition of insanity is repeating the actions over and over again and expecting a different result!!!!
