Goodguys 23rd Grundy Worldwide Insurance East Coast Nationals was a fantastic summer kickoff for northeast hot rodders! The show at The Big E in West Springfield, MA offered an outdoor show & shine as well as a large indoor car display.
Goodguys AutoCross provided full throttle fun with close to 70 participants. The clear skies allowed for 3 full days of AutoCross racing that participants and viewers could enjoy. Picking up the PRO class win was Chris “Smitty” Smith in the agile Ridetech ’72 Hour Corvette. His top time of 69.156 was over 4 seconds faster than the competition! Other big weekend AutoCross winners included Tom Bates, 69.430 (Street Machine), Zach Sawyer, 77.384 (Truck), and Dave Eastman, 83.076 (Hot Rod).
Big winners in the weekend show & shine included Joe Jerry’s 1970 Plymouth Road Runner from Clifford, PA which grabbed the finalist award for Goodguys 2015 Rocket Racing Wheels Muscle Car of the Year. Eric Boily’s sparkling silver 1971 Chevy El Camino was the recipient of the Goodguys Gazette Pick (look for a full feature on this beauty in the October Gazette) and John & Ginny Urdi’s ’40 Ford coupe was the recipient of the 75th Anniversary 1940 Ford award.
