A number of custom cars were unveiled at this year’s SEMA show in Las Vegas, but for me, one car stood out from the rest: a 980 horsepower ’66 Chevelle named “Recoil” built by Mike and Jim Ring of Ringbrothers.

This latest masterpiece from Ringbrothers made its debut inside Royal Purple‘s booth to an enthusiastic crowd and a very happy owner; this was actually the first time the owner had seen the final product. The car is covered in a sleek, custom color called “Sand Storm” and is constructed out of aircraft-grade alloys and hand-laid composites.

The 980 horsepower comes courtesy a supercharged LS7 engine, and power is put to the ground via a Tremec T56 Magnum transmission and a John’s Industries Ford 9″ rear-end. And keeping this land-rocket lubed is Royal Purple’s XPR Extreme Performance Racing Oil and Synchromax Transmission Fluid.

Recoil sits pretty on a set of three-piece forged wheels from HRE that also made their debut at SEMA. These wheels don’t just look good, they pack plenty of rubber with 275/35/19 up front and 345/30/20 in the back.

My favorite aspect of the car is the hand-fabricated interior that looks like it came from a futuristic jet-fighter. Ringbrothers packed their signature design elements into a race-ready cockpit, where function and form take equal priority.  No word on how comfortable the seats are, but they sure look cool.

The results are always fun when two performance-minded companies get together to create some road-going awesomeness. I can’t wait to see what SEMA has in store for us next year.
