Snake and Mongoose Goes to NASCAR

2014 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale-016

The crowd at Barrett-Jackson roared to its feet when Don “The Snake” Prudhomme’s restored Plymouth Barracuda and Tom “The Mongoose” McEwen’s Plymoth Duster Hot Wheels Funny cars and their respective haulers crossed the stage.  A year (plus) of publicity surrounding the Snake & Mongoose movie as well as multiple public appearances by Prudhomme, and occasionally McEwen, had been part of the campaign surrounding these two historic racers, restored by Prudhomme. The campaign for the set of cars and haulers began at Barrett-Jackson’s Hot August nights event in 2013, and was to culminate at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction.

The intro video spurred the crowd – broadcast live via Fox – and cheers rang out for the vehicles and their legendary drivers and owners.  But when bidding for the lot halted at $1million, the reserve had not been met. The cars were off the block, and remained unsold.

On cue, in steps Rick Hendrick, NASCAR team owner and legend himself, to save the day. For an undisclosed sum, Hendrick purchased the vehicles and will display them.
