The 2014 Dakar Rally kicks off Stage 3 today with a 412 mile trek across the open terrain of Argentina. The route will have competitors passing through the Pre-Andes mountains to test their high mountain driving techniques with motorcyclists climbing up to 14,107 feet in altitude.
For those new to the sport, the Dakar Rally is equal parts race and survival adventure, and features a combination of motorcycles, quads, cars and trucks battling 2,667 miles of harsh desert conditions in a span of 13 days.
