I hear ya! Me and my buddy Josh built a muddin' truck in high school. It was a short bed 1/2 ton Chevy with 10 bolts on both ends.A Caddy 500 motor,700r4 and a set of EXTREMELY heavy bias-ply 44x18.50 Ground Hawg tires. The paint was factory "doo-doo brown"(I beleive that is what GM actually called it) and was known as the Flying Turd We were cruising down main street down town, which in our little hillbilly town consisted of 2 gas stations,1 car wash,1 tire shop and stretched for about,ohhh...1 1/2 miles with a few cracker-box houses here and there ops: ,when the truck started shimmying(worse than usual,45 mph top speed :? ).We figured we'd pull into the one and only tire/auto parts shop and get his uncle, who owned it,to help us check it out.Well the steering knuckle broke clean off the axle tube(with the EXTREMELY heavy Hawg on it  ) as we entered the parking lot, rolled ahead of us,bounced of his uncle's shop and then proceeded to take it's only little joy ride back down main street  much to the surprise of the local black and white parked across the street at the filling station.Luckily,it didn't hit anyone, since we don't really have any traffic much.Well, the friendly officer helped us roll it across the street to where we were "parked" and started telling us how he was gonna write Josh a ticket for failure to maintain control of his vehicle.  Josh said"How am I supposed to maintain control of parts of my vehicle that decide to just fall off?I know why you're harassing me".Now you gotta know josh.Boy is teflon, nothing sticks. Can get away with anything. And an absolute nut to boot.Cop asked him "Whys that?".Josh says "'Cause you're a racist and don't like our kind!" Me,Josh and the cop are all white as snow. He just kinda looked at Josh like a cow looking at a new gate, shook his head and told us to be careful as he walked back across the street. You couldn't hear him laughing, but you could see him shaking trying to hold it in!Coolest part was,the wheelbase was so short, and the truck so tall that the thing didn't even fall!It just kinda sat there in mid-air and bobbled up and down! That was the demise of the Flying Turd as we had no $,plus we had had our fun with that truck.Ended up a 2wd ground hugger after that  .Yep,Lively! You're right!Steering tires falling off can be very exciting, ecspecially if you keep the right company!
lol... Clayton Bigsby would be proud.

lmao at Clayton Bigsby....

The truck has a flat top 406 with a good set of Dart heads and big solid cam. The tranny is a glide with a brake. The best I have ran with it is 9.87 @ 133. In EXCELLENT air at Bowling Green, Ky.

My Father in law built the truck, and after he passed I started to race it, in his honor. I really like the truck, but at 6'4" 290 its pretty tight in there. My biggest problem with it is the back half job, the truck is VERY flexible and "bunny hops" on a marginal track.
I have Semi-retired the truck to street duty. I was gonna put it on a tube chassis, but that snowballed into making it an extended cab, then that snowballed into black paint. It was at that point I realized the finished product would only barely resemble the truck. So I decided to leave it alone and cruise it to shows and the local burger stand.

When I was in high school, I lowered my first truck a 1982 chevy s10. I took the springs out and cut them and put it all back together. I couldnt get the cotter pins back in the ball joints, so i figured it would be ok for a week or 2 til I could get new ball joints. WOOPS!!

I was on my way to school (running late as usual) I am buzzin down this road about 55 in a 35 when i go around a s type curve in the road and BOOM the ball joint comes apart and I go sailing across the double yellow, over a curb, within inches of a fire hydrant, through a yard, through some bushes and stop about a foot from a 3 story apartment building.

Luckily, I didnt hit anyone or anything, just tore up some grass and bushes.
I got it rigged back together, with my "click click" jack and a key ring cotter key, in about 10 minutes and got the heck out of there. At least when I was late to school I had a good excuse..lol...

This seemed like the right place for that story so there it is...lol....

IF YOU LOOK ON EBAY UNDER DRAGLITES YOU'LL FIND THEM.YOU'LL PAY OUT YOUR REAR BUT YOU'LL FIND THEM.I RAN INTO THE SAME SITUATION WITH MY 74 CHEVY PICKUP.I GOT SO DISGUSTED TRYING TO FIND A SET THAT I WAS GONNA START TRYING TO FIND OUT WHAT 4 3/4 BOLT PATTERN ROTORS WOULD WORK.BUT LUCKILY I ACTUALLY CAME ACROSS A SET OF DRAGLITES WITH BOTH 5 AND 5 1/2 IN BOLT PATTERN.AND THEY ARE 5 INCHERS.NOW MY DILEMA IS TRYING TO FIND CENTER CAPS FOR THEM CAUSE THEY HAVE A 3 1/2 IN CENTER UNLIKE THE NORMAL 3 IN.IF ANYONE KNOWS WHAT ROTORS I CAN USE ON THE TRUCK TO MAKE IT 4 3/4 BOLT PATTERN I'LL GLADLY SELL YOU MY RIMS!!!
