Default what gear to run

01 mullis hard tail.462 bbc.at 13.1 on gas, power glide trans.leaving on the trans break at 4200. it has 3.90 gears now and 36'' tall tires, going the 1/4 miles at 9.62 at 144 but only shifting at 6000rpm and going out the back at 6150..but we are planning on running mostley 1/8 mile.it ran 6.25 at 113 at the 1/8th.the motor came out of a roadster running 8.80s i seen it do it.so i just think i need a little more gear..or shorter tires..any idea's ????? just a side note ,,we only have ran the dragster 5 times so far.. so iam sure it will pick up a little from these numbers.as we tune on it some..but it think it should run more like 8.95s in the 1/4 to 5.50s in the 1/8th....????

Tires are way too big for that car!!! We are running 34.5x17x16 with a 582 going 7.50's. Those are probably just a hair large for our car. Most guys are running 33.5x17x16 tires with these combos and smaller. You need to be no larger than 33.5 on the tire and I would go 4.10 or 4.30 gear.

Those times seem more like a door car than a dragster........is it a really mild BB or what?

not being a but hole just asking....

Ray, those are way big tires and not enough gear. Our dragster has 16.5-33s Hoosiers w/4.30 gear runs 5.0s in the 1/8 with a 468 injected.

With that size tire, and 1/8th mile racing I would go with 4.30-4.56. JMO.

IMO if it was me the tires would go first then a gear change. Id bet your 60ft is just horrible as its lugging that motor the entire way.

33.5 tire and a 4:30 gear would be my choice. Hoosier 18700's 33.5x17x16 co6

there is several tenths sitting there.
