Default Compact spare tires

So I've never had to deal with these newer spare tires that aren't a full size spare. My mom's car is a 09 fwd chevy malibu and has the compact spare. The front right tire went flat so i was just going to put the spare on there, but a friend of mine said to put a good tire off the rear on the front and put the spare on the rear, since the front is the drive wheel and turning wheel. Is this true or can i just put the spare on the front where the flat is?

The spare will be fine on the front for a short time at slower speeds. You'll need to get the regular tire back on soon to avoid diff damage. If the spare will be run for awhile, it's best on the rear....
