Well i wish i could say it was pretty, BUT DAMN THAT MURPHY and his law. It started out today after trashing for 2 days on the car, including having to put in an insert in one of the sparkplug holes. I wouldn't want to try that between rounds for sure. Anyway i decide to use my little flatbed trailer instead of my inclosed one. (the car is ready) So i start to check the air on the trailer, i kick the tire on one wheel and the tire jumps in about a 1/4". It's got buddy hubs so i can't just look to see what's wrong. ( i had loaned it out about a month ago) anyway i hook it up and bring it by the shop door and pull the wheel. The cotter pin had dropped out and the nut backed off about a 1/8" I get that fixed and load up, take a shower and head to the track. i get there and my friend had run out of nitrous YE,HA my day. He had just run 10.73, here i come. I go up to make my first pass in the car in 3 yrs., i had no intention of driving it hard, just wanted to warm up the engine, trans and rearend, so i cruise out of the hole with a 1.6, 60' time then get on it, didn't even pull the wheels which it will do all day long. It's pulling pretty hard until about 500 ft., then just shuts down, i kick it into nutural l'm thinking electrical connection, i coast thru @ 7.0 in the 1/8@ 100mph and 12.30 @ 75mph 1/4
i make it on coast about 1/2 way down the return rd. They come pick me up with a 4 wheeler. Get back to the pits and it was real easy to find the problem, the fuel pump belt is laying on the frame. I grab the fuel pump and it's locked up. I've been racing over 50 yrs. and running positave displacement pumps and i've never in my life time seen one lock up. Well i wish i had a better story, but it was not too be, it very well could have been my day, except for that damn Murphy.
Zip.
