Th400 or Poweglide ?
I've been going round for round on this decision as my research so far has not convinced me to lean in either direction. Are there any experienced builders or racers out there that can offer some first hand knowledge about this topic? Most comparisons I see ask about car weight and HP/Torque. This is a pro-street car that is driven short distances on occassion for car cruises, etc (approx. 300mi/yr). Here is the relavant information about my car.
68 Firebird
3300 lbs w/driver
474 stroker Pontiac
742 crank HP & 672 ftlb torque
Th350 trans w/4500 stall - NO Trans-Brake
3.73 rear gear
28" x 10" slick
Currently runs 9.90s at 136mph....1.42 @ 60'
I want to change the Th350 because I intend to start using Nitrous, which will put me at about 1000HP total (more than I want to trust my TH350 to handle), and I would like to install a trans-brake.
Thanks,
Bob

I ran a TH400 in my Camaro. It was race built but I did manage to f*&k it with around 1000hp.
I was using a transbrake and 3800 stall converter.
It would be better than a glide for your application but don't go doing burnouts starting in 1st gear.
