Ok i have some new info. just exhausting all possiblitlies

I pulled altenator so i can actually see the pointer & balancer its showing 32deg. base & advancing to 52 degs. ok the obvious is way too much total timing so i have a few questions.
#1 could too much timing be the prob. of car running out of motor on the top end.
#2 if answer to #1 is yes then why doesn't it effect the car anywhere else it leaves well i'm shifting at 7000 it pulls all the way no issues like on top end ( its advancing almost instantly very light springs)
#3 I kind of think its maybe the wrong balancer i did put it on TDC & it was zero'ed on blancer & pointer though.( could balncer be too small which would throw actual timing off) I didn't think the car would run well at ldel w/ 32degs of timing.
#4 if its in fact too small a balancer then i'll never really know the actual timing & need to adj. from where its at but the car didn't want to run in gear when i 1st got it so w/ out checking the timing i marked the block & distr. and advanced it maybe an 1/8th of an inch & it woke up & runs prefect so that kind of tells me something not right cause the car should run base timing of 10-12degs. input is welcome i'm not a mech just learning.

what's the 60' times?

the blancer size wont make your timing off 360* is 360* no matter the diameter.

your cam may be to small.

you may want to get a lock out dizzy.

Get a dial indicator and pull the drivers valve cover and #1 plug.
1. Check to see if it's solid or hydraulic. If Hydraulic, adjust to no slack:
a. Find TDC and verify your harmonic balancer pointer location.
b. If your harmonic is degreed, check for duration.
c. Measure total lift.
d. If hydraulic, don't forget to back rocker nut down to previous lash set up.
Good luck and keep us posted

Thanks for the help i have a long story to make it short i know this motor was recently refreshened the guy just didn't remember cam info. as he sold it then i bought it from the guy he sold it to only has about 40 passes on motor. I before buying this had a ton of trouble w/ a late model muscle car had a motor built had to pull it 3 times due to several different issues finally on the 1st race weekend w/ 3rd new motor found it had a crack in the #2 cylinder make core block should have never been used well mach. shop made it good but my wife said sell that piece of crap buy another car or get out of racing altogther so i bought this Nova & car runs well had no real mech. probs. as of yet so i don't want to tear it apart just yet & or spend a ton of money i'll play w/ timing and see if not i'll let it scream & next winter it will be torn apart
