Let's see if I understand your comment ......If a driver/ racer needs a 1/4 to get it done you need to go back to the drawing board...... thats about a ridicules statement. Last time I checked, I believe drag racing was founded on 1/4mi racing.

So let's shorten the 1/4 up to the 1/8 mi to make up for one's in ability to win / go fast by racing the 1/4mi. How about if one can't win/ go fast in the 1/8mi, maybe we should go to 330'...or maybe 60' or how about lets just go for reaction time.

I guess we better call NHRA and have them reset the stripe at 1/8 mi because all the 1/8 mi guys have the race won at half track......give me a break, If you can't run with the big dogs...... stay on the porch.

I don't see what the big deal is. Some people don't have a choice. Those that do, run whatever you like. Simple as that.

all our local tracks here are 1/4 , soooooo....... that what we run. If they were 1/8 , we would be running 1/8.  regear the rear! (edited for spelling, wouldn't want the spelling police on me )

It goes back to NHRA's decision to run 1,000 ft, in reality most of the big dogs were running almost full out at 1,000 ft. and the last 320' was only gaining 10 to 15 mph if that, and the cars that were burning down was usually in that last 320'
Most of the cars that run 1/4 mi. only runs a little faster in the qtr. EX- a dragster running 200 mph in qtr. mi. it would run 165/170 in the 1/8 mi so you're driving an extra 660' ft for 25/35 mi. and hr.
I've been racing for over 50 yrs. and until i moved to Ms. 12 yrs. ago had never been on an 1/8 track.
Like Maniac says Jason Sruggs from Tupelo, Ms. is scary fast, heck we got a Hurse in Baton Rouge that runs in the 3.80's and 3.90's. Either one of these cars would run in the high 5's or low 6's in the qtr.
Our track here at Twin Cities is an NHRA track and a qtr. mi. track, but in 2009, they started running 1/8 mi. brackets to save on cleanups and break downs.
My car runs 103 in the 1/8 and 125 in the qtr. i can go either way same gear, i could gear up and run a maybe 105 in the 1/8. o'h ya i want to run an extra 660' for 22 MPH--NOT :!:
