msd question

Default msd question

i'm runing a msd 6AL and msd coil. when i turn on the ignition before i start the engine should i get 12 volts to the pos. side of the coil? don't remember. we are ready to start motor and break in the new cam and i want to be ready and have it fire up as soon as possible. just checking. thanks john sullivan.

yes.... you should have 12 volts at the coil with key on

John,The coil + will only get voltage from the MSD when the MSD box gets a trigger from the dist.or crank trigger.Don't check for voltage at the coil it's going to be 400 volts or more when cranking.You should have 12 volts all the time at the big red wire and 12 volts at the small red wire with the ign.switch on.Bill.

so with the ignition swicht turned on and not turning motor over with starter button should i be able to read 12 volts at the coil?

ok i called msd they told me i will not have a 12v reading at coil. thanks for all your help. john s.
