th350/400 engine rpm capability
What can these transmissions take as far as engine speed goes? I will be putting a th350 behind an engine that will be capable of revving to 8.5k+ and just want to know if they will survive at engine speeds that high. Thanks guys.

How long a time at that rpm ?
Drag ? Hard acceleration for short time
Mile ? Hard acceleration for 1 mile
Road race track ? Hard acceleration / decceleration - up / down shifting
Open road race(endurance) ? High speed for extended time

It is just not about engine RPM. Personally, if it is a heavier street/strip car, I would pass on the 350 and go for a 400 that has been built to maintain your application. Don't get me wrong, a 350 serves the purpose, but a 400 will take more abuse.

I have been rcaing with my th400 since 96 and have had it rebuilt only once. It's behind a 455 Pontiac. My brother has a 72 Nova with a 406 and he goes thru 3 th400 a year. They don't like HIGH rpm's. 6500 max on a th400.
