Default Chevy 305 opinion

You guys think a 305 with a stock crank, stock rods, stock flat top or dished pistons, stock steel heads, stock hydraulic cam, stock rocker arm ratio, Holley 7448 and an Eldebrock 2101 could be modded enough to compete with a 350 with the same rules listed above ? If so what could be done?

No. You are giving up 45 cubes, which is horsepower. The 305 has the same crankshaft as the 350, but a much smaller bore, smaller heads, and weak connecting rods.

Hmk... So with a 350, with the rules what could be done to squeeze out more power?

first off I would upgrade the rocker arms for some roller rockers good for at least 10 to 20 horses maybe more. some port work on the heads and intake would be worth a few more but would be limted becasue of the stock cam. Are you running stock exhaust manifolds? if I could I would put on some long tube merged headers that will free up some horses as well. A ignition upgrade will be worth a few horses too, a msd 6a is a good choice for a stock to mildly modified motor. Tweak on the carb jetting and the timing curve to get few more. A K&N low restrictive cotton gauze air filter and K& N stubstack will straighten out air flow into the carb and is worth a few too.

Try to look for 58CC 1.88 intake heads. It was used H.O. 305. It will add more compression. Watch out for intake restriction ( swirl type intake ). Not recomanded for performance.

i would take that 305 and make a boat anchor out of it ..or better than that make it a huge 8 holder flower pot.......OR the start of a nautral coral reef for fish....

just MY opinion of 305's....can you tell i love them.......

they are useless as TITS ON A BOAR HOG.....

A friend of mine runs the 305 sprinter class an he runs in the top 5 almost every event, injected 2 3/16" hilborn that's all that is allowed, steel heads, flat tops.
He ocasoinally ventures into a race that 358" motors are allowed, he has never finished above 8th in a feature race, just not enough HP to keep up.

Zip.
