it's all i use! good old block from a dump truck. mine is .100 over (4.350) with a 4.25 stroke crank. this makes it a 505. i use 6.535 oliver rods in her. i have used these blocks for years and had no issues with them. i can't afford a "good block"

makes me feel good that my dump truck motor i put together in the back yard will run faster than a lot of guys "professionally built" pieces with the after market blocks

My buddy Bob Kisson, owner of Applied Dyno technology in Eagan,Mn, where I dyno all the engines I do, has found the limit of those blocks. He does a lot of alky tuning for many many tractor and truck pullers, alky funny cars, etc, that use injected alky, on serious blown big blocks, you know, 1500-2200+hp deals. He has a regular truck puller, that they found the limit of a truck block. It was about 1600hp, when it literaly ripped the deck surface off. Years ago, when like Ed said, basicaly all that was used, the 427 tall blocks, I know of a 4.750 crank that went in one. It worked. The motor was a total stone, with its mildly ported 990's, what were all botched, 640hp, and 670 ft/lbs, for a race gas 570. Totaly pathetic, lol. But, it ran. I personaly like the 4.375 shafts in them.

Default 427 tall deck truck engine

1st Question )Does anyone know if these blocks can be bored to a 4.500 bore , i'm aming to make a 540 ci with a 427 5-ton truck block machined downed to a 4.500 bore x 4.250 stroke with a 6.535 rod it should put me right to the top 540 ci any info would be great help
2nd question) Can i use a 502 piston in a 427 truck block bored to a 4.468 and a 4.250 crank or 4.500 with a 6.535 rod to give a 533ci or a 564ci.I had a friend pull my leg and he got 4.475 x 4.250 = 525 or 526 ci but i did not ask him what rod he used out of a 427 tall deck, i wonder how much of bore these blocks can take??????

if you fill the blocks, .140 is about the limit. you can put a 4.375 crank in them too and get more cubes that would make a 529, but you will hafta have custom pistons made as i don't think je stocks them that big. pretty sure they do at .125.

if you check je's website, or wiseco or whoever, they usually tell you the info that you need, bore size, rod length, stroke for the crank etc.
