Default fuel pump rod for roller

I have a GMPP crate motor. It's a Fastburn 385.It's got a steel roller cam in it.It came with a distributor that had the bronze gear on it,my question is about the fuel pump rod for the mechanical fuel pump.Does it need to be made of a certain material(bronze?)so as to not wear out something.I can find no info anywhere, and the "tech"at the dealership I bought the engine from, didn't know what a bronze gear was.
