Default blower question

OK...so I puchased this blower set-up last year, at a swapmeet, to put on my SBC in my car. I'm not exactly Joe Mechanic, I know just enough to get in trouble. I had the motor built and I'm going to find help to mount the rest. Here's my problem (see photo) I'm thinking the Quill/shaft for the snout is not the right lenth. The guy I got the blower from said it was on a 454BB. I'm putting in on a 355sbc. I'm looking for ideas, do I need to find the correct shaft for this snout? Or Am I missing a part maybe this had a different snout?? Heck, I'm not sure, and any advice would be great! hope the image thing works its a link to my post on the HAMB..lol

Boy thats a old homemade drive snout, it looks from the pic like the standard 4" snout that will work on sbc and bbc. You will have to buy the correct spacer to line up the snout to the crank. Are you planning on using a harmonic balancer or a blower hub? Do you even have anything other than this old gm diesel truck blower?

If you run a balancer and a blower pulley adapter with a single vee belt groove you will probably need a 7/8 to 1" spacer on the blower. You will need a different idler for a sbc, the one you want is going to bolt to the blower not the waterpump like the bbc one you have.

Default blower help

So I should just buy a new 4" snout? I'm planning a Harm balancer, and nope all I got is this old GM truck blower... Yep I figured I would have to get a different idler bracket, but what about the idle pulley? Most of them I see have the edges on them to help hold the belt on, do I need to have one with sides or will mine work W/O problems...thanks for your advice Kurt

expect $1500 plus in parts to retro a old blower plus carbs, i do alot of these. Yes if your street driving i would definately buy a new idler bracket and idler. To make things safe and reliable i would buy a new snout

sbc street blower intake $400
Snout $350
Idler $250
Blower belt $100
3-4 8mm pulleys $200
Dual carb adapter for blower $150
New good bearing and seals $125
