that is very true...he thanks me all the time..but i really dont think he has a need to! someone is his position right now doesnt need to thank anyone for supporting them. He thinks that people are going to look down on him for this and in my eyes it only makes him a bigger person. For years i was ashamed to let people know that i had cancer but my friends insisted on telling everyone...it was then that i realized what a blessing i really am! even thought i still do take things for granted..who dont..i am so blessed to be one of Gods miracles and will share my story, as much as i know of it with anyone who asks

from presonal exp the little things like someone to talk to or isnt judge mental means more then just having a "buddy" and the little things mean the most kind words or even the chance not to talk about it so let him express how much it means even if it dont feel like its much its what he needs when he needs it

Similar experience here - from the hurt side.
I was near dead from a crash in my 19th year - killed 3 of my friends in the car, I was in the back seat.
From being totally paralyzed with no sure recovery - to walking out of rehab in 6 months on my own 2 legs was a miracle.

nobody knew how to help - it was unique.
Some felt good to be at my side, others I was glad stayed away - let me heal on my terms. Never pity - that was a waste.
Positive upbeat people showing compassion and just treating you normal in a surreal time. Support tkes form in many ways - just mke him laugh or let him cry. Listen, talk about outside life - whatever feels right at the time.
You ARE helping him, and most 19 y/o girls wouldn't even think about it.
Your own illness has gifted you the ability to help others cope.
I have that too - sometimes it's a curse! Always the helping hand..oh, well, you get the point.
