Not my picture but this shows the idea perfectly. I use a triangle shaped file and cut the slot about .020" deep. Time the groove so the oil goes onto the gear right before it meshes with the cam.

. It's not uncommon. You can usually pick that up with a timing light is will show eratic timing when you check the timing. Hope this helps.
