Default Food for thought:

Let's put the seniors in jail, and the criminals in a nursing home.
This way the seniors would have access to showers, hobbies,
and walks, they'd receive unlimited free prescriptions, dental
and medical treatment , wheel chairs etc. And they'd receive money
instead of paying it out.
They would have constant video monitoring, so they could be
helped instantly ,if they fell, or needed assistance.
Bedding would be washed twice a week, and all clothing would be
ironed and returned to them.
A guard would check on them every 20 minutes, and bring their meals
and snacks to their cell. They would have family visits in a suite
built for that purpose.
They would have access to a library, weight room, spiritual
counselling, pool, and education.
Simple clothing , shoes, slippers, P.J.'S and legal aid would be free,
on request. Private, secure rooms for all, with an exercise outdoor
yard ,with gardens.
Each senior could have a P.C. A T.V. Radio, and daily phone calls.
There would be a board of directors , to hear complaints, and the guards
would have a code of conduct, that would be strictly adhered to.

The "criminals" would get cold food, be left all alone, and unsupervised.
lights off at 8pm, and showers once a week.
Live in a tiny room , and pay $5000.00 per month and have no hope
of ever getting out. Justice for all.

Default Agreed

I do volunteer work at a nursing home for an hour a week with a bunch of the guys and play cards with them, it's listed as the "Men's Group" on the activity sheet for the nursing home, and I do all the dealing and putting in the poker chips for some of the guys that can't, and at the end of the hour I dish out $2 to the winner and usually find 3 others who came in second and give out $1 to each of them.

I agree with the way these people in the nursing home are sometimes treated, and yet criminals get better treatment. Growing old in this country is a disgrace. Your entire lives possessions squeezed into a small half room.

BUT it comes down to the time you want to take to make a difference in someone's life. Call your local Nursing home and find out if there are any volunteer efforts you can do. I know I make my daughter come with me from time to time so she can get a better respect for what it means for be in a nursing home and what she can get out of it by making a difference in someone's life.

My friend has a dog and got it certified to go into the nursing home to see the residences. When I go with her its amazing to see the look on these peoples faces and how they start to talk about the pets they once had.

One hour really does make a difference in someone's life as well as your own.

and don't forget, if the old folks are in jail they can have a sex
change free of charge, and now that you think of it, the old folks
will live longer in jail than they do in a nursing home, look at the
ba$tards in prison who live a long life and are in good health,
a$$ backwards if you ask me

That is a fine thing you are doing PJ... the elderly do not get the respect they used to. I was raised to respect them... & I see the way they treated my G-pa in the "care center" he laid in for 5 years... if it was not for my grandma coming in every day, he would have died much sooner. He was a vet too. Makes me really sad... I would like to think there is a special place in HELL for the people who mistreat old folks... next to the child abusers. Keep up the GREAT work... that is appreciated more than you probably know. Scooter
