We have been building SB2.2 engines for the last 10 or so years both for circle track and drag use. if you select the correct head for the application there great.the int runners are longer than most other heads so you cant compare port volume with say an 18 deg head without taking that into consideration.most of the heads we use running gas have an int port volume of 286-300 C.C.with alky and N20 heads @ 322 C.C. Any of the 286 and up heads from cup teams that aren't older than 3 years will flow in excess of 400 cfm. most have combustion chamber volumes of 33-36 C.C.
Anyone who thinks the heads don't work for alky needs to check with Marc Zimmer @ Minetech Communications in Perth Australia. Last year one of our SB2.2 alky engines won all but two races for the entire season, including home track champion, pro dirt champion, national champion, late model masters, fireball derby and southern nationals. he has the most winning car in the history of super late models in Australia It would be hard to convince him that SB2.2 heads don't work on alky.Bill

I just finished the dyno time with my 447 SB2.2, it made 801.4HP at 6600, 829.7 peak at 7500, 805.6 at 8000, and still 796.8 at 8200 where we quit. These heads flowed 398 @ .800 lift on intake. I am hoping Bill will know where to get some better ones for the 9.5 deck 460 we want to start on this summer...
