results are in
sorry 454 r intake dominator flange
I was a little dissapointed, just off the dyno 703 HP 689 torque
it likes 38 degrees of timing very flat curve
ususally we get 10 to 15 more HP after the fresh motors "seat up"
but I really thought 750 ish....I will tell you this one (with open headers) really cracks. It sounds pretty special..... and I have heard a lot of motors
just goes to show you.... you never know

WHAT RPM DID PEAK TQ AND HP OCCUR? CAN U POST FULL DATA FROM DYNO SHEET? YOUR GIVING UP SOME HP SOMEWHERE MAYBE COULD USE MORE LOBE SEP ANGLE?I WAS EXPECTING 750HP OR SO WITH 700TQ
WHEN I DYNOED MY CAR,THE BIGGEST THING I TUNED FOR WAS A CONSISTENT AIR FUEL RATIO FROM 3500 TO 7200.I DONT MEAN TO HIJACK,BUT IS THAT ULTIMATE GOAL?THEN TO PLAY WITH MAIN FUEL JETS TO SEE WHERE MOTOR LIKES AIR FUEL RATIO???

And the winner is?????
Shawnp with his 740ish guess.
I have a 496 in my 69 camaro and love it.
Who needs a 511 or a 540.
Though I've never dynoed it, I figure I'm all over the 750 mark.
Our combos are similar.
But I've got worked cast iron VR325 merlin heads and a tad more cam (722/722 lunati) compression> 13-1
Best ET so far is 5.60 with 1.27 sixty
I believe there more to be made with yours.
Try some carb spacers and play with the jetting and timing curve.
Were you running gas or alcohol? Just Curious what ignition and plug gap and type of plug did you use?
Keep us updated, Cp

gas motor
single 1050 dominator (2 circuit)
hei w/mag pick up (I may change this to an msd w/ a seperate coil) but that should not increase HP but may be more consistant
ngk 8 heat range
It has the Dart s 345's
As a comparison:
I have a 489 BBC steel closed chambered GM heads. full roller , 695 lift cam 275 duration, ends up being 10:45 to 1 compression forged internals,it made 608 HP on the same dyno,
so........with a couple of compression points, a bit bigger cam, much "bigger" heads, same carb, and ignition 100 more hp

I too am surprised at that HP reading, i posed this same question about 3 mos. ago, but with a smaller set of 308 heads and hilborn stacks on gas. Take a look at Tcarda post in this thread.

I DO NOT CARE WHAT THE DYNO SAYS ??????????
JUST AS A FINAL NOTE. I KNOW THIS 496 IS ONLY 703 ON NUT ........BUT IT IS THE HEALTHYEST 700HP BBC THAT I HAVE HAVE HEARD IN A LONG TIME.........THIS MOTOR CRABS RPMS LIKE A NASCAR MOTOR...PLUS THE DYNO CURVE LOOKS LIKE DC VOLTAGE CONVERTOR FLASHES HP CURVE GOES STRAIGHT UP MAKES A HARD RIGHT AND STAYS THERE. HARD TO TELL WHERE THE PEAK POWER IS (AT A GLANCE)
THIS ONE IS SPECIAL....AND I THINK IT WILL WANT SPRAY
REALLY CURIOUS ABOUT ET'S WIITH THIS ONE .
