Default 511cid with Victor 454-R

I have a little experience with your setup, as I have a 511cid with a Victor 454-R intake, single 1050 dominator carb, 990 Ret. port heads, on alcohol and spray nitrous through a fogger on a 79 Camaro weighing in at 3,780lbs before I get in it. We run 1/8th mile...6.40 @ 104mph with a 1.42 60ft. on MOTOR. Spraying a single 350 shot, car went 5.77 @ 117 with a 1.28 60ft. Changing to a tunnel ram/bird catcher injection setup to hopefully pick up 4-10th's. I like the 454-R intake and would recommend it to anyone.

Spend the money on some heads and you'll see some major gain. 4 10th's out of a carb to injection swap would only mean one thing, the carb isnt even close. just MHO

sure wish you would have let me know this 2 weeks ago ...already purchased a branch new APD 1150 cfm alcohol carb...sitting on the shelf in my closet...my intake guy just called me this morning and said it would be ready tonight....he opened up the 454 -r intake a bunch and shortened the two front port runners, also gasket /port matched....i bought the intake NEW but used ( never bolted on the car)..the guy i purchased the intake from must have had someone DRUNK trying to drill and tap port nozzles..they were way off so i went ahead and had them welded up also..i should have back together later this week...if so i am shooting for another pass this Sunday....lol ...yes i am anixous..i ran a 5.99 at 114 mph last time out ..i am wanting to see if i just pissed away $ 1700 dollars or will i pick up 2 tenths....
damn $1700 for 2 tenths...this stuff is expensive when you get to this point...lol

Default Carb

I know exactly what you mean...I just bought a bird catcher tunnel ram injection, and a new set of AFR 345cc cylinder heads all for the low price of $4,500.00 I hope I can pick up 4-10ths at least. Good luck with your setup.

The 454r, with some mild plenumn work, will work good. I am sure the Sniper Jr will work well also, haven't used one yet, as, they are hard to get right now. Probably won;t be that much better, but possibly. I would say, that, un-touched, vs untouched, the sniper will have a small edge. If you do the minor plenumn porting, it will be even.

For methanol, on a 511, turning 7400+ I would even consider the Super Victor. Its generaly to big for that cubic inch, but, with methanol, will definately help. On the dyno, on gas, they will make a bit more hp, but the car will run slower at the track, in that cid range, unless your really winging it about 8000. With methanol, it makes so much more tq, plus the extra volume in the intake helps, due to the fact your running nearly twice as much fuel, so, that fuel, needs more room.
