Bluebaugh Left Busted in the Pits on Race Day.

Bluebaugh Racing’s Team Magna Fuel attended the Pacific Street Car Association’s Spring Break Shoot Out this past weekend March 13-15, 2009 at the Auto Club Dragway in Fontana ready to rock. Instead, the team was left busted in the pits on race day after crewman Wayne Hudgeons from Highway 69 Racing Products discovered a severe crack in the rear end housing on the Magna Fuel Monte Carlo. Crew Chief Deborah Woodard said we suffered with an unusual tire shake problem and aggressive clutch through qualifying that just did not make sense. I kept thinking there seemed to be a mechanical problem somewhere. The data just did not add up to an adjustment issue and the changes we tried did not respond as expected. We had looked at the Magna Fuel Monte Carlo the day before and did not see the problem. As a part of the final morning’s preparation I sent Hudgeons to inspect the rear of the car. Bluebaugh stated it’s a blessing that we discovered the crack when we did. It could have been very ugly. It appeared that the four link bracket was attempting to separate from the housing and we found additional cracks in the bracing. Just a week before, Bluebaugh was on the crew with Charles Carpenter when his car took a very violent turn into the wall on the top end at ADRL’s season opener in Houston. Bluebaugh went on to say, we could have easily been next. It was disappointing to be sitting on the sidelines on race day but we would rather take the Magna Fuel Monte Carlo home in one piece. A decision was made not to fix the car at the race in favor of further investigation. When we got home and took the rear end out, we realized just how lucky we were that it held through qualifying. Woodard said it’s just reaffirming that when something does not seem right, you have to search for the problem until you find it. With all the power these cars put out, one small failure can lead to disaster. The rear end is undergoing repairs and Bluebaugh will spend the week looking for any additional concerns. Team Magna Fuel will be headed to Bakersfield in just several weeks for the next West Coast Hot Rod event and will then be back for PSCA in Las Vegas to round out April’s racing events.

Bluebaugh Racing would like to Thank Magna Fuel for stepping up to be our title sponsor this year. Fans can tune into www.speedsceneracing.com weekly every Tuesday for cool racing news and catch the latest from Bluebaugh and Team Magna Fuel on a monthly basis. We would like to welcome JE Pistons as a sponsor for 2009. Woodard said we have been using JE Pistons all along and they have always been of high quality and stand up well to the extremes of nitrous we put through our engines. We would also like to welcome to Fast Forward. The company builds custom exhaust, hand ports cylinder heads, and has years of experience working with European sport and race cars. Thanks to Mickey Thompson Tires for their 3rd year of support. We are looking forward to another wonder year. Welcome to Highway 69 Racing Products. The company makes precision metal works and parts using a water jet. Special thanks to Tom Nelson with Team Performance Products for supporting us through it all. If you need large diesel truck repair stop by your local W.W. Williams service center. Check out Hughes Performance making tough transmissions for the street, strip, and your towing vehicle. Thanks to JD from SI Valves, our resource for quality valve train components. Special thanks to our friend and consultant Charles Carpenter Racing for continuing support over the years. Make sure you are running the industries best carburetor from Cubic Flow Modifications. Bluebaugh Racing is supported by the World’s Fastest Organization, LLC along with WFO Racing and Machine.

Way to go on your pre race checks... that is suttle looking... but certainly scarey. Glad you noticed it & did not get hurt. God Bless, Scooter
