Default oval port big block chev heads

What is the best head for a 490 cid BBC, where I need a 2500-6000 power band, max power 5500. Street car, small solid roller cam, wanting 550 tq and 500 hp.

Looking for an out of the box type head, no additional port work required.

Was thinking brodix race rite, or does AFR have anything in this area?

thanks!

For those numbers you can use a GM 781 or 049 head unless you want aluminum. I had 2 motors with a small solid flat tappet cam that made 550/550 on 92 octane with 2.19 & 1.88 valves without any porting.

yeah, I agree that stock heads have that potential (and more!) but you would have to port them, and by the time you do all that, you are gonna have some dough in them comparable to new alum heads. I want this engine to start fresh with some aluminum, new technology castings.

Why not the Dart Pro1 Oval Ports?

http://www.dartheads.com/products/he...ro1-heads.html

They can be had under 2K, complete.
