Default Need ideas please

!984 S10, 3200 lbs with driver, BBC615 Big Chief with 3 stages. I was thinking a 3.50 gear for 1/8th mile on 2 kits but I will be running Pinks Allout and think I may just run motor for this event and if I do just wondering if I should run a 3.73 or etc. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Travis

what size tire do you have? and what is the 1st gear ratio in your tranny..last thing is where does your motor make its peak power (rpm) ?

if your wanting to turn it 8400 in high gear Naturally aspirated with the 28 inch tall tire...i will say you would start doing research nothing under a 5.14 .....

now if your gonna pull those triggers ( all 3 of them) ...then your looking at the 3.50/ 3.73 range

i did not ask you before..did you have the converter made for NOS for the motor?...if so its gonna be real tight ..which ups the anti on getting the rpm's out of the motor Minus Nos...

Bottom line since it is a spray motor,,anyway you go you are gonna leave a bunch on the table until you get to pulling those triggers...( the only downfall to a all out spray,motor)...

if i were you i would go with the gear i am gonna run on a 3 stages and just deal with the et it gives you....if not be prepared to spend alot of extra $$$ and hassle with the different gear set ups and buying a HP converter......

i have a little of the same issue...my 632 is built leaning toward the spray side...i have an extremely tight NOS converter........
My motor made max hp at 7600 on dyno..
the big difference between yours and mine is that i weigh 2150 w/driver.

i also run a 16x33 tire with a 4.30 gear.....

and mine still ain't gonna lay down that awesome pass until i get to pulling the trigger...( converter mainly)...but my weight of car will be a little more forgiving than yours on a motor pass.

i used no charts or conversion tables here..cause i have found them to be off ( a lot) ..this is info i have had 1st hand experience with..

hope this helps out..

Brian

I appreciate this advice very much and agree that the other charts that everyone has is way off. I think we are going to spray 1 kit with a very small shot to get the converter to work. Maybe a 175 shot or so. I currently have a 4.86 gear. Would you leave that gear in it?

i would run the 4.86 gear on motor and see what it will turn....i will predict it will turn 7400rpm on motor.......i would say a 175 shot is gonna put you real close...

and thats pulling the trigger out of the hole thru the traps.

this is my guesstimate...don't take it as law...lol

Default question ?

I have aa simular situation about running my car. I built a 565 for my 2800 lb backhalfed ladder bar car wHich had 406 that I ran for 4 years. I ran the car 3 times with this new motor and decide to sell my car to find a tube chassis car, I did. I don't know exactly what the car weighed with big motor but to guess Iwould say about 3000 lbs, 456 gear powerglide 1.76 planetary. This set up I left about 5 thousand rpm and the car went left I go out of it and back it and the car went 8.99 @144 went thru trap at 7400.
Now my question is the new car weighs 2400 lbs with a steel headed sbc what will the car weight with a aluminum headed bbc and the same set up, exept for the chassis and 4 link setup, if the car goes straight does this sound right, will it work?
