Default piston 2 valve q&a

is it unusual to have the center of the valve different between the heads and pistons when you have aftermarket heads and pistons? i notched my pisotns for more lift today and hte exhaust valve is either offset on the pistons or the factory notched the pistons for a big block exhaust vavle and not a small block.

Will agree.
Now there are a lot of aftermarket heads with slightly relocated valves and valve angles.

Sounds to me like you recieved a set of pistons for an 18* of a sb.2 head, if you have a set of 23* heads and the pistons are clearanced for the valves they should take up too 1.625 valves easy, even for .700 lift unless the heads have been angle milled.

Now don't get pissed at me but a couple yrs. ago someone ask me to look at an assembled engine that all the exhaust valves was hitting the pistons. It turned out that they had not brought the piston up to #1 TDC and had installed the cam gear 4* advanced (3 notch crank gear)and lined up the cam gear to that location. Could this have happed to you by accident?

Zip.
