SUSPENSION TRAVEL
On a car with a typical 4-link, how much suspension should you have or need? I see rear shocks available from about 5 inches to about 7 inches of travel.
Thanks

put the most travel that you can fit. I run the shock in the rear with 1" of travel or a little more available before the bumper and the rest for rebound.
Some pre fabed cars will like the total shock length that it was built for unless you have adjustable lower mounts then the longer is prefered by me.
The longer travel one will have enough left in it to change ride height as well if you have to for what ever reason. the weight difference is minimal between the longest to the shortest. You will use maybe 3" travel top's in the run or less typically remember the bumper uses up 2" of travel. The longer ones will let the differential drop lower to remove the tires too. On some cars the shocks need to be un hooked on one end to get the tires off and clear the wheel well.
