Default Tips on starting a car

If you are needing to learn how to fire your methanol engine, i strongly suggest you do NOT do it like this.

I've always heard to use plain ole~ 87 octane pump gas, couple good squirts and let-er rip.

So what is the desired method Kwk? I'm dying to know.

The best thing we have found is carb cleaner, not as dry as ether. I is light enough to fire easy without any kick back. Open the throttle blades spray good down into the intake, close blades spray them and fire it up.

If you are injected without a primer system this works great and you can spray the blades if it starts to die before picking up fuel. Primer system just using gas is just as good or better though.

I've been running injection and also blown for a long time. I crank it over switch off until i see oil pressure and flip the switch, if the injection is not primed by then, i have someone give it a shot of gas (i keep a little oil can full of gas for this purpose) it's always worked for me.

I use a lil squirt of gasoline also.

All it takes is a lil amount of something with a lower octane to make some heat, then the methanol with run. (when the engine is warm they usually will fire on there own and assuming if injected its primed.

Same scenario with a diesel engine using glow plugs

I should have added that with the blown alcohol motor, even when it's warm i always use a little gas because i kill it with the fuel shutoff, plus it's a pretty good tug on the starter turning over the motor plus the 1471 blower. My injection motor i just kill it with the switch so it's always primed at the track. Once it's in the trailer i kill it also with the fuel shutoff. After it's started once and warmed up it fires within 1 turn over with the starter.
