Default Fuel pump doesent seem to fit???

I installed my engine today, BBC 540 with ron's 0 1/2 pump. No matter how I install pump, it just does not look right. Are the fittings supposed to be pointing up or down? I am going to run a carb to start with being so new to alky. my pump is gold, black bracket pump bolts to is a 8501-A and another bracket bolted to it that is a 8506. I need help, or maybe a pic of someone's on there motor??? Thanks for any help.

The newer pumps have a slip collar where you can rotate them to any position, i personally don't run Rons pumps, i run DSR pumps, but everyone now makes the slip collar pump.

Thanks Zip, I have a older pump, I think I may have to upgrade later in the season.
