Default chevy 1.94 heads

hi im currently building a small block for a 76 camaro im keeping the stock bottom end and the heads that were on it sucked they were like 1.7? 1.5 off a 305 i was wondering of anyone has ever milled the heads down to get something like a 50 cc combustion chamber because the 1.94 1.6 heads with 76 cc chamber i am looking at would kill my already bad compression ratio im just looking to add a few horses on a budget a small budget and i don't have any money for 500 dollar heads any help i would greatly appreciate it i know it would cost to have them milled but i think it would be cheaper than new heads
thanks logan

IT CAN PROBABLY BE DONE, BUT YOU MIGHT RUN INTO PROBLEMS WITH FITMENT OF THE INTAKE.

You could try a cleanup cut on the heads and run the thinnest head gasket you can find. Won't be much but it can help. What engine are you building? 350 vortec heads are pretty reasonable and will flow alot better than the 305 heads.

old style in takes can be made to work with a drill and with valve covers a if not running fancy crome salvage yard 5-10 bucks or there are tons of adapters to convert your covers to new center bolt heads or visa versa

the 305 heads realy not worth messing with unless last 3 numbers are -601  even then you still need to take fla1976 advice on clean up to make them breath alittle better  the vortec would be the better choice a 062 casting" last 3 numbers" has hard seats from factory great for a street runner
