We are getting old, the LS is the new GM small block. How many old GM 350 blocks are left? The GM 454 blocks are gold around here. The cost of aftermarket blocks will make the LS more popular before it is over we will all probably run a LS motor at some point. Think in the 70's electronic ignition and disc brakes, 80's fuel injection that would never last. Change scares people, but is sometimes for the best. Just my 2 cents!

I HAVE A 2003 LS1 IN MY 57 CHEVY AND LOVE IT... THESE LS ENGINES ARE BULLET PROOF COMPARED TO THE OLD SCHOOL STUFF... A GUY IN TOWN HAS ONE IN A S10 WITH A BIGGER CAM AND SPRINGS,, RUNS 10.80 AND DRIVES IT 120 MILES ONE WAY TO THE TRACK AND GETS 20 MILES TO THE GALLON... THIS IS WITH A 900.00 JUNKYARD MOTOR
A STOCK STYLE NODULAR LS CRANK WILL HANDLE 600 HP
STOCK RODS WILL HANDLE 550 HP
THE BLOCKS ARE 6 BOLT MAINS AND WILL HANDLE 700+ HP
THE HEADS STOCK HAVE HUGE INTAKE PORTS AND BREATH WELL..
RIGHT NOW YOU CAN BUY THEM IN ANY JUNKYARD FROM ROLLOVERS FROM 300.00 TO 1200.00 DEPENDING ON MILEAGE... I HAVE BEEN RUNNING OLD SCHOOL MOTORS SINCE 1990 AND THESE LS ENGINES PRODUCE WAY MORE HORSEPOWER....OPINION

What cars came with them? If you know nothing about them(like me) what does one look for if looking for one in a junkyard?

I really like my ls motors. I've got a little new and a little old in my 2000 Trans am. Ls1 motor and a trans braked turbo 400/12bolt driveline. I'm kinda kicking myself I didn't step up the the 4l80e trans but the th400 is just so much more cost effective.
