Actually YB, Henry made them, but most of the one's for sale are fiberglass kit cars.
Below is a 26 and a 27 that are steel bodys listed at Hemmings.

My guess is that the 27 roadster was one of the original roadster choices and was common to see in Super Gar and Super Comp. With the newer bodies you might sight see guys that are looking to get into a Camaro body or Vette bodied roadster. You may also see a lot of guys selling their car because they are just going back to bracket racing only and giving up the throttle stop stuff.

Like shawnp said probably getting out of the super classes. Any time you go to a national event you will see all these cars running 8.90 @ 175 mph, which means they are running mostly a full second slower ET than they are capable of running because of a throttle stop. They are the least popular classes for the fans, and when they come up to run you'll see the bleachers go almost empty because the people go to eat, walk the midway or what ever, they're just not liked (and i run super street) but i also see the problem.

Shawn hit the nail on the head. I have a 27 and they are not the most aero cars out there. MPH is king in the super classes and with the same motor combination in a 27 as opposed to say a 2010 vette body you would easily see 2-3 mph difference. Probably more like 5, but I don't have any data, just my WAG at it. As soon as I have opportunity I will be going to a later model vette body. I would like a 57.
