    Gun laws by 'Executive order'

“The state must declare the child to be the most precious treasure of the people. As long as the government is perceived as working for the benefit of the children, the people will happily endure almost any curtailment of liberty and almost any deprivation.”

~Mein Kampf, Adolf Hitler Publ. Houghton Miflin, 1943, Page 403

Everything I read sounds really legit, especially beefing up the permit laws and prosecuting criminals who try and illegally obtain a permit.

President Barack Obama said Wednesday he will take these actions by Executive Order:

    1. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background-check system.

    2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background-check system.

    3. Improve incentives for states to share information with the background- check system.

    4. Direct the attorney general to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.

    5. Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.

    6. Publish a letter from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers.

    7. Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.

    8. Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission).

    9. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations.

    10. Release a Department of Justice report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it widely available to law enforcement.

    11. Nominate an ATF director.

    12. Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations.

    13. Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime.

    14. Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.

    15. Direct the attorney general to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun-safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop innovative technologies.

    16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.

    17. Release a letter to healthcare providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities.

    18. Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers.

    19. Develop model emergency-response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education.

    20. Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover.

    21. Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within Affordable Care Act exchanges.

    22. Commit to finalizing mental-health parity regulations.

    23. Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health.

Some make sense, most either don't or should be being enforced as part of existing law(s).

On the Doctors reporting gun information gleaned from their patients, there's parts of that that I agree with and have advocated in past threads. (articles 16, 17, 20, 21, 22, and 23) BUT, all but 22 and 23 are in direct conflict with the HIPPIA Law on Patient's Information disclosure . . Thus, when your doctor asks you about your guns (or anyone else's), you may tell him that, one) it's none of his business, and two), if you told him, he couldn't, by law, tell anyone else.

But, for Congress to "Outlaw" a particular type of gun, especially after they have been legally obtainable for 45 years, and in the latest buying rush, probably put another 25 to 50 thousand of them into households and collections, is totally stoopid (with two 'O's) simply because once they're out there, they cannot be "Controlled" . . No more than Meth or Heroin . . And private sellers are not going to be bothered by running "Background Checks" on someone they're selling a gun to. It's nothing more than a finger in the dike.

Even more stupidly, the Liberals make a fuss over the killing of the few by "Assault Weapons" when the major villian in the homocide rate in the USA is the stolen handgun . . Which takes me full circle to my recommendation of creating mandatory sentencing laws for possession of stolen guns . . We didn't see (or hear) anything about that in either his list or his speech . .

I don't see any thing there, that would prevent me from obtaining a gun, or anyone else that,s on the up and up.

The heart and soul of this debate is our second amendment rights. What all these EO's do is try to wiggle one part of the little toe in through the door opening, then they will try some more with a little success, and on and on...It is ALL about GOVERNMENT CONTROL over EVERY aspect of YOUR life. Obamacare will have an effect on EVERY ASPECT of EVERY ACTIVITY that you partake in. Example; It's dangerous(racing, shooting, sword swallowing) therefore we(the Government) will regulate it to be 'safer' thus costing LESS in medical as there will be less participants because it costs so much for 'insurance'.....We the PEOPLE are LETTING 'them' STEAL our Liberty EVERY SINGLE DAY...fraction of an inch by fraction of an inch...

Something I posted in another Forum a couple of days ago pertaining to the "Why" of the immediate demand for Gun Control:

The Liberal agenda to take firearms from the population, simply put. They fear and want to negate the second amendment. If the population has no method of refusing dictatorship or full blown socialism and perhaps in the end, "Communism" . . then it's far easier to apply, isn't it?

The Founding Fathers didn't put the second amendment in second place because they wanted the population to be capable of killing wild turkeys and deer to stock their larders. They made it Second so that the American People would always be able to resist tyranny within their own government. If it had just been about food, it would have been a footnote in the Declaration of Independence . . It was written to protect us from exactly what we have come to . .

It is abhorrent that the Idiots who lead this country pretend to the masses that the "Assault Weapon or Rifle" is the problem . . It's not. The largest share of the homacide by Gun comes from stolen handguns and sawed off shotguns, with a full automatic MAC 10 thrown in here and there . . Now, re-read the last sentence and see if there's anything "Legal" mentioned there . .

Again, let's start out the conversation by taking the "Illegal" Guns off the street and making EVERYONE safer and a little more responsible. Mandate hard time for possessing a Stolen Gun and more of the same for committing a felony with a stolen gun . . Without hard punitive measures, firearms law(s) will be just like the "War on Drugs", Toothless . .

On the 'Doc thing . . Based on my experience with my own doctors and dentists, none of them seem to be impressed with any part of the "Affordable Care Act" and, to me, at least, speak very negatively about Obama and any of his agendas . . Thus, if the current administration or the Liberal agenda calls for the doctors to rat off people who own guns, I think they're barking up the wrong tree . .

And here's an argument that popped up yesterday. A Black acquaintance asked me why I was "Against Obama's Call for Gun Control" and brought up the issue of "racism" because so many Black People die from gunshot . . My answer to that was that if he would check the numbers, that it wasn't a "Gun Problem" but a "Black" one . . Simply because over 60% of those who shoot a Black person (or White person) are Black people . . Which, if you note that the Black population of the country is about 15%, would be very highly disproportionate. And, although there seems to be little information on this, my guess is that probably 90% of the guns used by those Black People are stolen or illegal by the Mann Act . . Again, it's a "Culture and People Problem" not a "Gun" problem . .
I also believe that it's a convenient "Rabbit" for the White House to throw out there so that the American people won't see what Obozo's gonna do with the upcoming money deal . . . It's "Convenient politics" . . . or "Never letting a good crisis go to waste" . .

I am with you DD. It is not so much about the guns... it is more encroachment of GVT in our lives in little baby steps.... they will keep coming until we fight or loose all freedoms. To fight them, we need to keep our eyes on the big picture. What is funny is that many of these upset gun owners only know some of the 1st & 2nd Amendment; many can't even say what the rest are. We must stay ahead of them & not give them one damn inch IMHO.
