Default exhaust gas temp

ok guys i was talking to my machinist and local engine builder about my sbc and how i can make optimum power he said cam and heads are the most important but he also said people are taking something from a snowmobile and drilling a hole a putting in the header to measure the temp of the exhaust gas anyone know anything about this he said 1200-1300 degrees ideal anyone got any ideas ive seen thing that look similar to an o2 sensor in the pipe on snowmobile

You can buy several different egt monitors and probes. You can get them to monitor one cylinder, 2 cylinders or all 8. Anywhere from about 100 bucks to thousands for some data loggers that monitor everything, including the last time you went potty! Some weld in some have a clamp on style probe that holds the probe in the header. Snow mobiles have nothing to do with it. I even have a new computech monitor and weld on or clamp on probe for a real good price if you want to message me I will send pics to you.

Ok sorry, I guess I misunderstood.
If you have an extra snowmobile handy go for it 8)
They are not too common around here

It's still an egt. It's not a snowmobile part. I ran them on snowmobiles when I raced them and I've used them on my drag car. It's just an instument or gauge to measure exhaust temps.

I have one I'll sell you cheap also if your interested. Just pm me.

Just Googled up EGT kits, and there are hundreds of them, including Jegs.

Yeah, we have quite a few here in Michigan too, but I don't think any of them come standard with egt's on them. Good luck.
