    1/8 or 1/4 mile?

    May have been asked before, just curious what is favored.Who runs what and what do you prefer?

    1/8 or 1/4

    I have been racing for over 40 years and only ran 1 time in the 1/8 until I moved to Dallas Tx where most for some reason are 1/8 mile. I try to visit them once in awhile but have always raced and been told real racing was 1/4 mile. until this year the Texasmotorplex ran both, mostly 1/4 but went to 1/8 for unknown reasons to me, I quess thats what we end up with having a women run the track now. I dont know her myself so i should not put it on her as i am sure many reasons went into the thought? i have only been there a few times since changing to 1/8 and dont plan to go back very soon if it stays 1/8

    I have mixed ideas about this. I agree real racing is 1/4 mile. However, with the cost of racing these days 1/8 mile does help keep some cost down for the average weekend racer. May not help much, but it's gotta help a little. It takes a lot less real estate to run a 1/8 mile track and it does help move the race along a little faster.

    I like racing 1/8th .. less time to think and makes it more of drivers race.

    i know this subject has been brought up here and seems to me to have gotten heated and finally came down to race what ya like or have around you to race.

    The track's here run's 1/8th mile except when a large event come's then Bristol run's 1/4 mile :!: :!:

    I've drag racing for 56 yrs, and had never run an 1/8 mi until i moved from Phx. to Ms. in 1996. There's lot's of reasons for running an 1/8 mi. #1 the program moves faster,#2 less cool down time needed between rds. #3 less part breakage = less track downtime, #4 they usually have 1 or 2 buy backs, #5 less accidents, if a car is ill handling it usually shows that on top end of 1/4 mi. #6 as David says it more of a drivers race, since most races are won on the starting line and first 60', and if you can't get it done in 1/8 mi. you won't get it done in a 1/4 mi.
    It goes back to 3 yrs. ago when NHRA, changed the fuel programs to 1,000 ft. a lot of people bitched, but they were breaking and wrecking in the 1/4 mi. some ran about 330 MPH in the 1/4 mi., some are now running 320's in the 1,000 ft, 320 ft less than a 1/4 mi. We have both 1/8 and 1/4, you have your option in T&T, but when the racing starts it's 1/8 mi.
    In case some haven't noticed there are ProMods, running 215 MPH in the 3.70's, that plenty fast for a door slammer
